N. F. Cachemaille-Day

My friend Richard Kenyon and I challenge each other every few years to list our "Ten Best..." or "Top Twenty-five." There is merit in reconsidering our priorities; it's a measure of our growth. Since the 1980s, when I chanced upon the work of N. F. Cachemaille-Day [1896-1976], he has gradually worked his way onto and farther up the list. Not quite top-ten material, he's pushed some fairly heavy contenders onto the sidelines. As an exercise for myself (if no one else), I feel a need to write about him.
